The Carolina Experience Welcomes Fall

North Carolina is glowing from mountainside to coast. Each of our properties is unique and has something to offer this time of year.

The Carolina Fall Experience

Autumn leaves warm the golf course greens in Southern Pines. Elkin’s farms and vineyards are bursting with late season produce, and the Edenton sun sets orange over the bay. September heralds in fall with a sigh. Crisp mornings melt into sunny, warm afternoons and crickets serenade the shortening days.  The Carolina Experience provides the perfect stay for hikers, golfers, and travelers of all kinds who are looking to bask in the beauty of early fall.

Pumpkins and Perfection in Elkin

The quaint city of Elkin sits in the beautiful Yadkin Valley, recognized as North Carolina’s first American Viticultural Area and boasting over 40 wineries. The vineyards and friendly climate also draw hikers from all over the world to explore the only place in North Carolina where three sanctioned trails converge.

Our boutique suite hotel, Three Trails, sits right in the center of it all – whether you’re in town for a wine country getaway, a hiking adventure, or just a peaceful stay in the walkable and welcoming downtown. Originally constructed as the first structure on Main Street in the 1800s, this beautifully restored landmark has been transformed into a collection of 14 boutique apartments — each with its own distinct layout, charm, and personality. Three Trails is perfect for groups and families. Each thoughtfully designed suite includes a full kitchen, while select larger suites also feature dining areas and spacious living rooms. A perfect place to unwind after your hike or share a bottle of local wine.

If you’re looking for something to do in the area, experience the fun of the Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival just steps from your hotel room.  Celebrating its 29th year, the festival will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM in Downtown Elkin.

Markets and Festivals in Southern Pines

Not too far away, historic southern charm meets modern, thoughtful comfort at our iconic Jefferson Inn.  Built in 1901, the Jefferson is the oldest surviving inn in the city. With its storied past and boutique charm, the inn stands as a beloved landmark in the vibrant town of Southern Pines.  Our beautifully restored rooms represent the historic classic charm of this beloved building while offering plush and luxurious amenities.

1901 Lounge

For over 120 years, the Jefferson Inn has stood as a central hub and gathering place. That tradition continues today at our 1901 Lounge, a stylish on-site bar where guests can enjoy craft cocktails, premium spirits, and a welcoming ambiance inside at our speakeasy or out in our beer garden. Live music is featured every week.

Fall Fantasies

We are proud to be one of the official lodging partners for Moonfire Realms Fantasy Faire & Gala at Rubicon Farm on September 26, 2026.

Also, the Moore County Farmers Market in Downtown Southern Pines is held each Saturday, running March 14th-November 21st, 2026. The market takes place 8 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Downtown Southern Pines Park green space.

Experience an Edenton Fall

On the coastal side of the state, fall continues at our two waterside Bed & Breakfasts – The Granville Queen Inn and Captain’s Quarters. These sister inns are both conveniently located in the charming downtown of Edenton, one of North Carolina’s most picturesque and historic coastal towns along Albemarle Bay. Thoughtfully refurbished with modern touches but maintaining their historic charms, both inns offer homemade breakfast and excellent accommodations for groups and weddings.

Stroll the Coast

Edenton Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., April through December, featuring over 40 vendors selling baked goods, local produce, crafts, cheeses, wines, and more.

The Albemarle Queen paddleboat will take you across the picturesque Albemarle Sound. Buy tickets for a family afternoon ride, one of their featured dinner events, or book for a private party or wedding.

Just a four-minute drive away is the Chowan County Regional Fair featuring farm produce, live entertainment, games, rides, and five days of family fun September 29 through October 3.
